Frequently asked questions about the Bornholm Rundt route

A fit cyclist can complete the route in 1 day (4–5 h of riding). However, we recommend 3–4 days: this allows you to explore attractions, relax on beaches and truly experience the island. The stages are 20–30 km each, giving a comfortable pace without rushing.

The most difficult part is Stage 1 (Rønne → Allinge) with climbs up to 22% and gravel sections. The south of the island is flat and easy. A trekking or gravel bike is best for the full route. A road bike works if you skip the gravel sections via parallel asphalt roads. An e-bike is a great choice for the hilly north.

The south of the island (stages 3 and 4) – yes: flat terrain, mostly asphalt, little traffic. The northern sections (stage 1) are challenging – it's worth skipping them or taking the BAT bus, which carries bikes free of charge.

The route is signposted in both directions. We recommend clockwise (northward via Hasle): you tackle the hardest section on fresh legs, and on the final stage the prevailing westerly wind helps you along.

Each stage has campsites, hostels (Danhostel), guesthouses and hotels available. Popular overnight stops include Allinge, Gudhjem, Svaneke and Dueodde. In peak season (July) it's worth booking in advance.
