Dueodde is one of the most remarkable places on all of Bornholm – a wide, bright beach with sand so fine it was once used in hourglasses. It's a paradise for those who enjoy tranquillity, sweeping views and unspoilt nature. Expansive dunes, crystal-clear water and a sense of endless space make Dueodde the perfect destination for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
The small holiday area of Dueodde is tucked away just behind the wide, sandy beach that shares its name. Among the fragrant pine forests grow the characteristic, wind-sculpted trees that have shaped the identity of this landscape for decades. The dunes constantly change form under the influence of the sea breeze, giving Dueodde a landscape that always feels alive and dynamic.
This is not a typical village – the local infrastructure is modest, yet perfectly suited for visitors seeking nature and tranquillity. By the large car park leading to the beach, you’ll find a steak house, a souvenir shop and a small snack bar serving classic Danish hot dogs and the locally loved Bornholm ice cream. Just a few steps further stands the beachfront hotel, while a small shop offering basic supplies is located at the nearby campsite.
Most guests arrive at Dueodde to stay in holiday cottages or on the campsite, usually by car, which is why grocery shopping is easiest in nearby Snogebæk, where several restaurants and small shops are available. When it comes to accommodation, Dueodde offers a wide selection – from summer cottages and campsites to comfortable hotels. The cottages in the Sommerode settlement, located closest to the beach, are particularly popular.
Dueodde Beach is part of a remarkably wide, 12-kilometre stretch of sand running from Boderne in the west to Balka in the east. It is an ideal spot for lovers of water sports – surfers will find their own little paradise here, while the shallow, calm waters are perfect for swimming and relaxing.
Dueodde Fyr is one of the most distinctive landmarks in the southern part of Bornholm. Standing over 40 metres tall, it provides excellent visibility of the surrounding area and serves as an important navigational point for ships travelling along the coast. A long staircase leads to the viewing platform, from which you can admire sweeping views of the dunes, Dueodde Beach and the island’s southern tip. The lighthouse is only a short walk from the main beach car park.
In the forests surrounding Dueodde, you can still see the massive concrete foundations of an unfinished German gun battery from the Second World War. These positions were intended to hold enormous coastal guns, but the project was abandoned before completion. Today, the remains offer a fascinating insight into the island’s military history.
The tower known as Bornholmertårnet stands near Dueodde and was built in 1986 as an intelligence facility used by the Danish Intelligence Service. Today, it functions as a museum featuring exhibitions about the Cold War, surveillance technology and the island’s military past. Visitors can ascend (or take the lift) to the viewing platform and enjoy sweeping views of the Dueodde coastline and surrounding landscape.
