Svaneke is one of the most beautiful and sunniest towns on Bornholm. Known for its colorful half-timbered houses, small galleries, and artisan workshops, it has a charming and artistic atmosphere. At the harbor, you can enjoy local ice cream, sweets, and freshly smoked fish, while scenic walking trails lead along the rocky coastline just nearby.
Svaneke has a distinctly artistic character — the town center is home to many galleries, small workshops, and shops offering locally made goods. Be sure to visit Svaneke Bryghus, the local brewery with an outdoor garden where beers brewed on-site are served. Another popular stop is Svaneke Bolcher, where sweets are made by hand and you can watch the entire process through a glass window. Above the town stands the Svaneke Mølle windmill, and the harbor has a calm, holiday atmosphere — perfect for a coffee break or a light meal. Thanks to an exceptionally high number of sunny days, Svaneke is considered one of the warmest places on Bornholm.
The town’s main square (Torvet) is surrounded by cafés, small shops, and seasonal stalls run by local producers. Look out for the water tower designed by Jørn Utzon (the architect of the Sydney Opera House) — it’s one of Svaneke’s most recognizable landmarks, known for its simple, modern form.
Near the harbor you’ll find Svaneke Røgeri — a traditional smokehouse where you can taste local fish and see the distinctive white smoke chimneys. On the eastern edge of the town stands the Svaneke Lighthouse (Svaneke Fyr), set in open terrain with views of the sea and small granite coves.
South of Svaneke lies Listed — a small settlement with a cozy harbor, galleries, and a café right by the water. A short drive away are the Helligdomsklipperne — impressive coastal rock formations with scenic paths leading to the Bornholm Art Museum, one of the island’s most important cultural institutions.
To the north, you can head to Gudhjem, from where boats depart for Christiansø. Around Svaneke, you will also find short walking routes connecting natural bathing spots, granite inlets, and coastal viewpoints.
