Balka Strand

The main and best-known surfing spot on Bornholm. Balka beach stretches for several kilometres between Nexø and Snogebæk on the south-east coast. Fine white sand with no rocks, shallow water with a sandy bottom – ideal conditions for beginners and experienced surfers alike. With NE winds, clean and regular waves build up. The beach is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds, so it's often calm here when the rest of the island is windy.

Spot – Balka
  • Wind directions: SSE → NE (best conditions)
  • Bottom: Sandy, shallow – a great spot for learning
  • Waves: Clean waves with NE winds
  • Notes: Crowded with beachgoers in July – stay cautious. Repeatedly voted one of the best beaches in Denmark
  • Access: Parking along the beach. Bus no. 8 from Rønne or no. 7 from the north, approx. 100 m from the bus stop

Dueodde

Dueodde beach on the island's southern tip offers over 10 km of the finest white sand – one of the widest beaches in Scandinavia (up to 300 m). With westerly and south-westerly winds, good waves form across multiple sandbars. The water is clean and clear. The vast space means there is always room for safe kite flying, even in peak season.

Spot – Dueodde
  • Wind directions: SE → NW
  • Bottom: Sandy, multiple sandbars – good waves with WSW winds
  • Waves: Good in W and SW conditions
  • Notes: Walk to the water approx. 500–800 m through dunes and beach grass. Very wide beach – plenty of room
  • Access: Parking at the main entrance. Bus no. 8 from Rønne or no. 7 from the north, approx. 1 km from the bus stop

Boderne

A spot on the south coast, south-east of Rønne. A wide, sandy beach with good conditions for entering the water. In the right wind, solid waves develop. The water is clean, but rocks may be present on the bottom in some places – watch out. A notable feature of this spot is the sharp transition from shallow to deep water.

Spot – Boderne
  • Wind directions: Various – works well with southerly and westerly winds
  • Bottom: Sand with some rocks. Gets deep quickly – be careful!
  • Waves: Solid waves possible
  • Access: Parking at the beach. Bus no. 8 from Rønne, approx. 500 m from the bus stop

Antoinette Strand (Rønne)

Works well with winds from the SW–NNW sector. Keep in mind the fast ferries on the Rønne–Ystad route, which can generate unexpected waves even in calm weather.

Spot – Antoinette Strand
  • Wind directions: SW → NNW
  • Bottom: Sand, rocks near the waterline
  • Waves: Ferry wake waves – surprising in calm weather!
  • Notes: Strong shore currents possible in strong onshore winds
