The Opalsøen trek is a perfect walk for families with children — a short, easy loop through the most beautiful viewpoints of the Hammeren peninsula. Along the way you'll see small lakes with emerald-coloured water, a viewpoint overlooking the quarry from above, the Hammeren Fyr lighthouse, interesting rock formations, and with a bit of luck — curious goats. The trail starts and ends at the car park by Hammer Sø, so there's no need to retrace your steps.

A loop around the quarries on the Hammeren peninsula. Start and finish at the car park by Hammer Sø. The route passes viewpoints, the lighthouse and runs alongside the quarry lakes. The map shows the full loop with marked waypoints.
Set out from the car park at Hammer Sø and head towards the cliff. The route is a loop — after about an hour you'll return to the start by a different path. Below are the main points in walking order.
Free car park right by Hammer Sø lake. From here we set off on the loop through quarries and Opalsøen. Alternative start: Hammerhavn harbour (5 min further).
After just a few minutes of walking, a panorama of Sandvig and the sea opens up. On a clear day you can see all the way to Sweden.
A tiny lake hidden among greenery — peaceful and photogenic. An ideal spot for a short stop with children.
Viewpoint from above overlooking the old granite quarry and emerald-green lakes below. One of the best views on the entire route.
The main point of the trail — a view of the turquoise Opalsøen lake in the former quarry. The water colour changes depending on weather and time of day.
Hammeren Fyr lighthouse (1895) at the top of the peninsula. You can walk right up to it and enjoy a 360° panorama of the sea, cliffs and quarries.
The second of the beautiful quarry lakes — smaller than Opalsøen but equally charming. The path runs right along its shore.
Return to the starting point. The loop is complete — no need to walk back the same way. Nearby Hammerhavn harbour has a café and toilets.
| Difficulty | Easy, family-friendly route — no steep climbs, suitable for children aged 4–5+. Short sections of forest path. |

| Goats | You may encounter goats on Hammerknuden — they readily approach people and are used to tourists. |
| Food and water | No shops along the route. Nearest café and toilets at Hammerhavn harbour (5 min from the car park). |
| Pushchair | Route not passable with a pushchair — stony paths and uneven terrain. Baby carrier OK. |
