Sandvig – a Safe Beach

Sandvig – a Safe Beach

Sandvig Beach is one of the best-known holiday spots in northern Bornholm. Located right next to the picturesque town of the same name, it combines golden sand with distinctive granite rocks and cliffs that add to its charm. It’s an ideal place for a family day by the water, as well as a perfect starting point for exploring nearby attractions such as Hammerknuden and the ruins of Hammershus.

Sandvig – The Charm of Northern Bornholm

Sandvig Beach is a small but exceptionally picturesque bay offering views of the rocky coastline and the open Baltic Sea. The water here is clear, and the seabed slopes gently – making it an ideal spot for a morning swim or a relaxing break after a day of hiking in the nearby Hammerknuden nature reserve.

Overview

Sandvig Beach is located at the northern tip of Bornholm, at the foot of Hammerknuden – the island’s northernmost point.

It is the northernmost sandy beach on Bornholm and very popular among visitors.

A beach that combines sand and rocks – surrounded by cliffs and lush greenery. The rocks create scenic areas and provide natural shelter from the wind.

The seabed deepens gradually; parts of the beach are sandy, while others are rocky. A bathing jetty makes it easier to enter the water, especially when seaweed covers the shoreline.

Facilities

The beach is well equipped: parking, toilets, a bathing jetty, and ramps and paths allowing access for people with reduced mobility.

During the summer season, lifeguard service (TRYG) ensures safety on the beach.

Shops, restaurants, cafés, and a nearby campsite and service points make Sandvig a convenient and comfortable holiday spot.

Nearby Attractions

In summer, the beach comes alive: children play and jump from low rocks, people sunbathe, swim, and enjoy the sea views.

Despite its popularity, Sandvig retains a unique charm thanks to its blend of natural elements – cliffs, rocks, sea, and hills rising behind the beach – giving it a more varied and scenic character than the wide, open sandy beaches.

An excellent starting point for walks – for example to Hammerknuden (with stunning views and a lighthouse) or the ruins of Hammershus.
