Hasle Harbour Bath

Hasle Harbour Bath
5.0

Hasle Havnebad is a unique floating harbour bath in the port of Hasle on Bornholm's west coast – a concrete island floating on the water, with pools of varying depths, diving platforms, and views of the sunset over the Baltic Sea. Completed in 2013, it has become a landmark of the town and an example of how even a small harbour can offer a modern space for swimming and recreation.

The harbour bath in Hasle port

In the port of Hasle you'll find the floating harbour bath – Hasle Havnebad. It is a concrete platform floating on the water, sheltered by the port's granite breakwaters. Pools of varying depths, including a children's pool, allow safe swimming right next to the open sea, while the outer edge of the platform marks swimming lanes in the deeper waters around it.

From the tribune and stepped towers you can enjoy the panorama of the harbour or sit and wait for one of the most beautiful sunsets on western Bornholm. The harbour bath is open every day of the week and is popular with both locals and tourists – even though the island is famous for its magnificent sandy beaches.

Architecture and facilities

The harbour bath was designed by architects White Arkitekter and Thing Wainø. They were inspired by the idea of floating blankets laid over the water and land of the harbour area. A timber platform of approx. 360 m² and two stepped towers create amphitheatre-style seating at varying heights – visitors can use them freely, depending on mood and weather.

From the main tower extend two diving platforms – one rises 6 metres high and offers views of the harbour, the sea, and the setting sun. A 25-metre floating ramp connects the platform to the shore. On the quay stands a building clad in FSC-certified timber, housing a sauna, toilets, and an outdoor changing area.

The project was part of the revitalisation of Bornholm's former industrial harbours and the "Land of Opportunities" programme (Realdania and Bornholm Regional Municipality). Construction cost approx. 6 million DKK, and the facility opened in 2013.

Pools and bathing areas

The harbour bath includes a 15-metre pool and a smaller children's pool (approx. 17 m²). The varying depths and open waters around the platform make the site suitable for all ages – from first dips in the sea to more demanding open-water swimming.

Hasle harbour and the surrounding area

Hasle is one of the largest ports on Bornholm – a safe fishing harbour and marina that can be entered at any time of day or night, in all weather. Electrical connections and drinking water are available at the quays, and the harbour building offers toilets, showers, a laundry, and the harbour office.

Hasle has a pleasant shopping and restaurant district and the Grønbechs Gård cultural centre with art and craft exhibitions. North of the harbour begins Bornholm's rocky coast; to the south lie wide sandy beaches and forests. Nearby is also Kultippen – a Martian landscape created by a former coal mine.

Hasle Badeklub – winter swimming

Next to the harbour bath operates the winter swimming club Hasle Badeklub "Den Varme Viking" (The Warm Viking). The season runs from 1 October to 31 May – members use the sauna and take dips in the cold Baltic waters. On Sundays the sauna is also open to guests with children.

How to get to the harbour bath

The harbour bath is located in Hasle port at Havnen 25, on Bornholm's west coast. Hasle is easily reached by bus from anywhere on the island – the town has excellent transport connections. Parking is available near the harbour for visitors.
