Melsted Strand Beach is one of the most charming spots on the eastern coast of Bornholm. Although the island is famous for its picturesque cliffs and rocky coves, here you’ll find a peaceful sandy stretch perfect for a family getaway. It’s a small, intimate beach that captivates with its simplicity, natural beauty, and tranquil atmosphere.
This place has a unique atmosphere – on one hand, you can feel the raw, natural beauty of Bornholm’s landscape; on the other, the calm, summery charm of a small seaside village. From Melsted Beach, a picturesque coastal path leads to Gudhjem, perfect for a morning or sunset walk.
Melsted is located just south of Gudhjem, on the eastern coast of Bornholm.
The beach stretches from the small Melsted Harbour all the way to the Melsted Badehotel.
Despite Bornholm’s rocky coastline, Melsted offers beautiful, soft, yellow-white sand and crystal-clear water.
At one end of the beach flows a small stream (Melsted Å) that enters the sea — a great spot for children to play in the water, build dams, and cool off.
At the other end, there’s a swimming pier that allows easy entry into the water without stepping on stones.
A very family-friendly beach: shallow water near the shore, a stream for play, a pier, and no big waves.
Accessibility: parking spaces are available nearby, along the road and in Melsted.
Water: the gentle slope of the seabed makes it easy and safe for swimming.
Infrastructure: there are no large commercial facilities directly on the beach — a hotel restaurant is located nearby.
Around the beach, you’ll find rocks, cliffs, and some small dunes.
Near the beach lies Melstedgaard – an agricultural museum, allowing you to combine a beach day with an interesting cultural visit.
