The Oluf Høst Museum, located in the charming town of Gudhjem on the island of Bornholm, invites visitors on a remarkable journey into the world of one of Denmark’s most significant artists – Oluf Høst (1884–1966). The museum is housed in the painter’s former home ("Norresân"), which he designed himself and where he worked for many years.
The entire site serves not only as a gallery of Høst’s works but also as an authentic place of creation – the paintings are displayed exactly where they were produced, creating a unique atmosphere and allowing visitors to feel close to the artist and his sources of inspiration.
Wandering through the house-museum and its rocky garden leading towards a picturesque sea view, you can truly sense the spirit of the place – the raw nature of Bornholm, the shifting light and the moods that Høst transferred onto his canvases. Thanks to this unique setting, each artwork gains a new dimension when you realise that the very landscape, light and scenery formed the context of its creation.
The museum also offers temporary exhibitions and multimedia stories about the artist’s life.
The institution opened in June 1998 in the building that Høst moved into in 1929 and transformed into his villa-home "Norresân". Høst was the only native painter from Bornholm among the group known as the "Bornholm School", and his work gained international recognition – he exhibited in New York (1927), at the Venice Biennale (1934) and at the World Exhibition in Brussels (1935).
The museum’s collection includes more than 50 paintings, drawings and sketches by the artist, displayed in his home, his studios and in the garden atelier.

One of the most characteristic motifs in Oluf Høst’s work was the farm "Bognemark", which he painted for more than 30 years, at times creating over a hundred versions of the same place in different seasons and light conditions.
Additionally, the garden of his house-museum was created on the site of an old quarry, which today gives it a unique atmosphere – walking down the garden towards the sea, you can discover the very spot that inspired the artist and where his summer studios once stood.
The Oluf Høst Museum is located in the northern part of Gudhjem, just off the picturesque Løkkegade street. It is easy to reach on foot from the town centre – the walk takes only a few minutes and leads through characteristic narrow lanes. The museum can also be reached by car, and a small visitor car park is available on site. BAT buses serving Gudhjem stop in the centre, from where it is just a short walk to the museum.
