5.0

Østermarie Church (Østermarie Kirke) is a unique place on Bornholm where history meets modernity. In the village of Østermarie, in the eastern part of the island, two churches stand side by side – the old one and the new one.

The old church, built in the 12th century from granite blocks, was one of the oldest Romanesque churches on Bornholm. Over time, its structure weakened, and after many damages, it was decided to build a new church next to it, which was consecrated in 1891. Today, the remains of the old building, with its distinctive arches and stone walls, form an extraordinary open-air museum of sacred architecture.
