Skt. Nicolai Church – the church in Rønne
St Nicolai Church in Rønne was built in 1275 and has been rebuilt many times over the centuries. Its present cruciform layout with a western tower is the result of a major renovation completed in 1918. Inside, visitors can admire the beautiful 14th-century font from Gotland and the characteristic Bornholm-style pulpit. Standing on a hill above the harbour, the church greets travellers arriving on Bornholm and often serves as a venue for concerts.
After the restoration works carried out between 1915 and 1918, architect Hans Christian Steen reshaped the building — the existing structure was expanded with a southern transept, a taller tower was erected, and the interior was adapted to its new cruciform layout. At the same time, parts of the original 13th-century church were preserved, along with elements from medieval extensions: the northern wall and the portal from around 1350 are still visible today.

The interior of the church impresses with its unique floor made of Paradisbakke granite, laid during the restoration works of 1982–83, as well as details such as the pulpit and the late-Renaissance galleries.
