On Bornholm, you’ll find many affordable campsites and free camping areas known as Fri teltplads. These are simple, often beautifully located spots for travellers with tents, hikers or cyclists. The sites – Primitiv overnatning – usually offer basic facilities such as a water source, simple or compost toilets, and sometimes a covered cooking area or a bench. No reservation is needed, and accommodation is either free or very low-cost. It’s the perfect option for those seeking peace, nature, and a genuine outdoor experience away from crowded campsites.
Budget Campsites and Wild Camping on Bornholm
In selected forests on the island – such as Rø Plantage, Blykobbe Plantage, Pedersker Skov, and the northern part of Almindingen – you can pitch a tent completely free of charge as part of the so-called "fri teltning" concept, meaning free forest camping. This allows you to plan a cycling or hiking route, spend one night in the forest, and continue your journey – making the island perfect for low-budget and flexible travel.
