Historic Ship Cruise

A cruise aboard the historic passenger ship M/S Thor from Gudhjem Harbor along the rocky coastline to Helligdomsklipperne is a wonderful experience, perfect for a pleasant family outing with both young and older children, as well as active seniors and retirees.

Guided Experiences and Viking Stories

During the cruise from Gudhjem to Helligdomsklipperne, the captain will share stories about the sights along the way, as well as legendary tales from the Viking Age. You will also experience part of Bornholm’s unique nature, including Hestestenene, Blod Egil, Stevelen, Røstad Beach, and other notable locations.

M/S Thor sails close to the steep cliffs at Helligdommen, such as Den Tørre Ovn, Den Våde Ovn, Lyseklippen, Helligdomsklippen, Sorte Gryde, and other fascinating rock formations. In the distance, you will pass a collection of ancient graves on the beach and several impressive glacial stone blocks from the Ice Age, including one of Denmark’s largest at Salene Beach.

Artists and Their Motifs

Helligdomsklipperne is one of the most inspiring locations for Bornholm artists, and it frequently appears as a motif in their works, particularly among artists historically connected to Bornholm. Among them, painters Vilhelm Kyhn and Skagen artist Michael Ancher created works here.

Artists Otto Haslund, Karl Isakson, and especially Oluf Høst painted many motifs from Gudhjem. On the way to Gudhjem, you can see the very popular Bokul motif from the sea side. You may also often spot artist Kasper Køie painting one of his favorite motifs at Nørresand.
